Good

  • Max panel is 264 sq in, the largest light area in this list
  • Rated 10,000 lux at 18 in, farther than most LED lamps
  • Stepless dimming with a single knob
  • Four-year replacement warranty

Not so good

  • 5,500K is above the 5,000K level CET says adds glare without extra benefit
  • No independent lux measurement found
  • Product page does not mention a tilting head
  • 30-day return window, shortest of the picks

The Langham is one of the few LED lamps rated at 10,000 lux beyond 12 inches. It comes in two sizes. The Standard has a 6 x 17 inch panel rated at 10,000 lux from 12 inches for $149.99. The Max, listed here, has a 12 x 22 inch panel rated at 10,000 lux from 18 inches for $224.99.

On paper the Max is excellent. About 264 square inches of light is the largest area in this list, well past the 200 square inch guideline from the Center for Environmental Therapeutics, and 18 inches is a comfortable distance for reading or eating. The LEDs are rated at CRI 98 and 50,000 hours, and a single knob dims them smoothly, which helps if you want to start below full brightness.

Two things keep it below the Carex and fluorescent boxes. First, no independent lux measurement turned up in research for this page, so the 18-inch rating rests on the brand’s word. Second, it runs at 5,500K. CET says bluish lamps above 5,000K are no more effective than white light and cause more glare.

The product page describes no tilt adjustment, so check that you can get the light above eye level on your table. Circadian Optics offers a four-year replacement warranty but only 30 days to request a refund, and shipping is not returned.

If you can wait for independent data or prefer warmer white light, the Carex Day-Light Classic Plus costs less and has been measured.
