Who they are
Northern Light Technologies is a Canadian light therapy company. A profile on Made in CA says the company was founded in 1989 and lists Montreal, Quebec as the manufacturing location. The same profile notes that the company’s own products are marked as made in Canada, while it also distributes some products from other manufacturers.
What they make
The range centers on bright light therapy lamps for seasonal affective disorder and winter low mood. The BOXelite OS is the model we list. The brand has been around longer than most of the direct-to-consumer lamp companies that now dominate search results, which is a reasonable sign of staying power but says nothing on its own about light output.
What to check before you buy
Lux ratings on light boxes are measured at a specific distance, and short distances flatter the number. Check the distance printed on the spec sheet for each model and compare it with how far you actually sit from a lamp. Our guide to using a SAD lamp explains timing and distance, and the light therapy lamps page compares models side by side.
