Who Daylight is
Daylight Computer Co. was founded in San Francisco in 2018 by Anjan Katta, who is still CEO. It makes one product, the DC-1. The tablet runs Android 13, weighs 1.2 lb and has no camera. It launched in 2024, and the first 5,000 units sold out that year.
What the screen is
Daylight calls the display “Live Paper” and describes it as “like E Ink, but faster.” It is a monochrome transflective LCD. It reflects room light or sunlight, so it needs no backlight outdoors, and it refreshes at 60 Hz, fast enough for scrolling and video. Indoors you can switch on an amber backlight, which Daylight calls a “campfire spectrum with zero blue light.”
Claims to check
The homepage says other devices emit blue light that affects your circadian rhythm “even in night mode” and that the DC-1 means better sleep. Daylight gives no spectrum measurement, melanopic figure or study for these claims, and we have not found an independent measurement of the backlight. A dim amber light is a sensible choice for evening reading, but the screen is only one light source in your evening. Room lighting usually matters more. Price and warranty
Reviewers report a price of $729. Check current pricing, the return window and warranty terms on Daylight’s site before you buy. The DC-1 is our top pick on the low blue light screens page.
